Packing the Court
The Bush Administration, and its embeds, will stop at nothing to press the Neocon agenda. Yesterday Guardian Unlimited reported in "Judiciary to Ask for 67 New Judgeships" that the U.S. Judicial Conference will ask Congress for 67 new federal judgeships. This is a very big issue, because these are lifetime appointments. Coverage of this issue in the USA is virtually nil! Are they trying to sneak with one through? Whisper who dares!
Here's the base link: "Federal Judiciary Says New Judgeships Needed."They just want to sneak this one through. In the late 1930s, President Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack the Supreme Court with more seats (six, I believe), so that he could appoint a majority of judges of his liking. Now it appears that the Administration is trying to sneak through a large increase in the federal bench, in order to be in time for the current President to appoint his Neocon buddies. The justification is increased workload on the federal bench—reportedly 29% increase since 1990.
I say, OK, if we need more justices, so be it. But, let’s make the rule in the bill in Congress, that if the President is within 2 years of the end of his term, he may not appoint judges to newly created seats until his next term. Or, at the very minimum, he should be limited to 50% of the appointments, with the other 50% being appointed in the next Presidential term.
I shudder to think of the long term impact on our freedoms if President Bush's cronies can be appointed in such large numbers before the end of his term. Such a change has the potential of changing the whole fabric of America!
Wake up America, before it is too late!
The War on Journalism
It is pretty clear that the Neocon power mongers are doing their best to squelch the media, in the interests of maintaining their dominating position in national politics. The most notable example recently is the case of Josh Wolf. Josh is a blogger, who on July 8, 2005 was videotaping a protest in the Mission District of San Francisco, when things started to go bad. Josh’s side of the story was that San Francisco police officers became aggressive toward the protestors. Josh began to film these scenes. He later posted some of his material on his web site, and sold part to some of the local TV stations.
Federal prosecutors gained jurisdiction in Josh’s case, by claiming that the police car, which had its taillight broken, but which belongs to the City of San Francisco, was purchased with federal funds. That’s a bit of a stretch, don’t you think? Nonetheless, the Justice Department then subpoenaed Josh’s raw videotape and his testimony, which he declined to give, claiming a journalist’s right to protect his sources. The judge in the case held Josh in contempt of court, and threw him into a federal prison to attempt to “coerce” his testimony, where he has remained since September 2006.
According to Josh’s mother, Liz Wolf-Spada, Josh is now the longest held journalist in the history of the United States, more than 200 days. And, all of this is because the tail light on a police car was broken, by someone other than Josh. You can hear the full story on The Words Matter Radio Network “On Demand” stream, by looking for the “Josh Wolf” story near the bottom of the list of programs provided.
Does anyone think the Justice Department is trying to intimidate bloggers? Whisper who dares!
You can see the “Frontline” series on the war on the media here, and their interview with Josh Wolf here.
You can find information about how another blogger is being treated, for “insulting” a President, here. We need President’s with thicker skins!
The World needs MILLIONS of courageous bloggers, who prove to the powers that be that intimidation of your own citizens is not a solution to the World’s problems.

Tsunami of Blood Published!
"Mind Stretching!" That's how Managing Cultural Differences author, Dr. Philip Harris describes the content, which explores:
How fear mongering politicians, hate mongering theologians, and irresponsible media are guiding us to an Age of Horrors. Americans do not understand our real peril. There are over 100 million young men between 15 and 23 in the Muslim World. In some countries they have no movies, no sports teams, no way to meet women, little education, and few jobs. When Iraq settles down, the foreign fighters will go home and mix with this volatile demographic. What will happen then? Will this cancer metastasize?
Tsunami of Blood explores this and many other crises, which are leading us to a very difficult quarter century, and offers some means to work toward solutions.
